Task Force leader responds to death of the Rev. Jerry Falwell The Rev. Jerry Falwell, founder of the Moral Majority, died today at the age of 73. “The death of a family member or friend is always a sad occasion and we express our condolences to all those who were close to the Rev. Jerry Falwell. Unfortunately, we will always remember him as a founder and leader of America’s anti-gay industry, someone who exacerbated the nation’s appalling response to the onslaught of the AIDS epidemic, someone who demonized and vilified us for political gain and someone who used religion to divide rather than unite our nation.” — Task Force Executive Director Matt Foreman Photo courtesy of the Soulforce Equality Ride [ Read the Associated Press story ]
New from the Policy Institute: Living in the Margins The Task Force Policy Institute released a historic study on May 10 titled Living in the Margins: A National Survey of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Asian and Pacific Islander Americans. The study is based on data from the largest-ever national survey of Asian and Pacific Islander LGBT Americans. Among the disturbing findings: 75 percent of respondents reported experiencing discrimination and/or harassment based on their sexual orientation and 85 percent reported experiencing discrimination and/or harassment based on their race or ethnicity.
