Task Force Foundation responds to ‘lewd conduct’ arrest of Idaho Sen. Larry Craig

“What’s up with elected officials like Senator Craig? They stand for so-called ‘family values’ and fight basic protections for gay people while furtively seeking other men for sex. Infuriating pathetic hypocrites. What more can you say?”
— Matt Foreman, Executive Director, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force

Action Alert: Task Force, Inc., needs your help today on ENDA

Please urge your U.S. representative today to support the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) before it comes to the floor in September. ENDA would make it illegal to fire, refuse to hire or discriminate against an employee based on real or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity. The House of Representatives will consider ENDA shortly after the August recess, so your representative needs to hear from you now.

OutSpoken Blog: Speaking out, creating change

LGBT rights supporters protested at Saturday’s Reggae CariFest in New York City because some of the featured performers have written lyrics promoting violence against LGBT people. Task Force Organizing & Training Project Director Zaheer Mustafa, who last week wrote a very personal blog entry on the impact of hate music, was invited to speak at the protest (pictured).

This week, he writes: “The coalition’s work forced Clear Channel Broadcasting to withdraw its sponsorship from the event last week. It is refreshing to think that, in this day and age, a small group of people can indeed change the minds of a large corporation.”

Government regulations seek to kill adult social-networking sites

The federal government is proposing regulations that would effectively kill adult social-networking sites. This is being done under the guise of fighting child pornography. The regulations would in part allow the attorney general to conduct warrantless searches at will on targeted sites’ records, including visitors’ personal information. There are few safeguards over what the FBI can do with the information it obtains. You have until September 10 to object to these regulations, and the Task Force, Inc., urges you to do so. It’s easy and essential.
