New York Power Summit on video!

More than 125 committed activists from across the country turned out Nov. 29–Dec. 2 for the New York Power Summit, co-sponsored by the Task Force and Empire State Pride Agenda. Task Force and Pride Agenda staff provided advanced skills training to LGBT leaders, advocates and allies so that they are increasingly effective at educating the public, mobilizing voters, raising money and building strong teams of volunteers to help create change! Check out our new video about the Power Summit. Caption: Task Force trainers lead one of the many workshops. Photo by Jorge Taveras.

World AIDS Day: Task Force urges for greater response

“We can no longer buy into the blame-the-victim mentality when the fact is that our government continues to slash funding for prevention programs. We can no longer pretend to be mystified by the surge in HIV in young gay and bisexual men when, instead of abolishing the abominable and thoroughly debunked ‘abstinence-only’ programs, the Democratic-controlled Congress is — this very day — considering giving them a huge increase in funding.”
— Task Force Executive Director Matt Foreman

Gay ambassador resigns over discrimination at State Department

“For the past three years, I’ve urged the Secretary and her senior management team to redress policies that discriminate against gay and lesbian employees. Absolutely nothing has resulted from this. And so I’ve felt compelled to choose between obligations to my partner — who is my family — and service to my country. That anyone should have to make that choice is a stain on the Secretary’s leadership and a shame for this institution and our country.”
— Michael Guest, the former ambassador to Romania and an openly gay man, explained the reason behind his departure from his career in government. Guest is a 2003 recipient of the Task Force Leadership Award.
