From the Executive Director

Let’s face it, 2007 was not the year we expected it would be. Who would have thought that with the new Congress we would have had to fight so hard to prevent an increase in funding for abstinence-only programs, or be thwarted in passing a hate crimes bill? Who would have thought that, after starting the year 100 percent united around a trans-inclusive ENDA, we’d be where we are today?

While 2007 was not necessarily the year I expected it would be, it was a historical year nonetheless. Old-fashioned activism combined with modern technology enabled us to mobilize our community in ways more powerful than ever before. And the results are clear — from working to secure unprecedented gains in state legislatures across the country to protecting marriage equality in Massachusetts to United ENDA to empowering activists in New York through our Power Summit to laying the groundwork for a fierce battle to change hearts and minds in California — the Task Force stayed true to its mission as the uncompromising voice for LGBT equality.

I thank you for making this possible and wish you a wonderful 2008. I hope to see you in Detroit in February at the National Conference on LGBT Equality: Creating Change, where together we can plan for the coming year!

Sincerely,

Action is hot. Power is sexy. Come and get it baby!

You can learn how to take action and build LGBT political power at the National LGBT Conference on Equality: Creating Change on Feb. 6–10 in Detroit, Mich. Creating Change is the one and only time each year that more than 2,000 LGBT rights advocates from every corner of the country converge to strategize, socialize and mobilize for LGBT equality. Check out this new 90-second video to get a taste of this incredible event. The Creating Change room block at the Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center is already sold out, but we have secured overflow rooms at a hotel across the street. Get lodging details here.
