Board Biography: Naomi Metz
Naomi Metz
Attorney, DLK Group PC
San Francisco and Santa Rosa, CA
Naomi, who is a Sonoma County native, received her B.A. in Environmental Studies from Mills College in 2000, and her J.D. from UC Berkeley School of Law in 2008.
In law school, Naomi focused her studies on laws related to the recognition and protection of LGBT families and their financial assets. Naomi’s thesis examined the practical impact of SB 1827, a 2006 law requiring Registered Domestic Partners to file their California income tax returns jointly. During law school, Naomi also completed an externship at the National Center for Lesbian Rights, was a research assistant on a project examining the impact of the federal “ministerial exception” on LGBT employment opportunities, and worked as a law clerk for DLKLawGroup PC.
After being admitted to the California Bar in December 2008, Naomi worked as an associate in the estate planning group at Friedemann Goldberg LLP, where, in addition to her daily work, she co-authored an article titled Estate Planning for RDPs: Navigating the State and Federal Conflict, which was published in the Summer 2009 issue of the California Trusts and Estates Quarterly.
Naomi is currently the lead attorney in the Santa Rosa office of DLKLawGroup PC, an estate planning firm that specializes in estate planning for LGBT families. She often leads educational seminars for other professionals and the LGBT community on estate planning, tax, and property issues for LGBT families. She founded and facilitates a study group for attorneys and tax professionals that examines the complex interaction between California and federal tax and property laws. Naomi will also teach a class on LGBT issues in the law at Empire College of Law in Summer 2012.
Naomi lives in Santa Rosa with her wife, Jennifer.
