Help pass ENDA: Ask Congress for a job
Help pass ENDA: Ask Congress for a job
Here at the Task Force it’s been all ENDA, all the time these last few weeks. We’ve asked you to call and e-mail Congress again and again in order to help us finally get ENDA passed. You’ve helped us do everything possible to make sure our opinion is heard loud and clear. (Thank you, by the way!)
But this week, there is one more thing you can do to convince your members of Congress to pass ENDA — hand them your résumé!
If you or a friend are LGBT and currently under/unemployed, go to your member of Congress and ASK for a job! That’s right — because we are in the final push to get ENDA passed in the House of Representatives, we are calling on LGBT people to go look for work — at your representative’s office. We need you to demonstrate to Congress that we need jobs and we are determined to get them, even without the protections we all deserve. Whether you are a carpenter or a physicist, a politician or a factory worker, ask Congress for a job and ask them to end workplace discrimination.
Not really looking for work right now? That’s okay — you can still make a difference. Forward this message to at least 5 friends and tell them to ask Congress for a job, or pass the word to others. Our combined actions will make a big impact.
We have a sample cover letter you can deliver with your résumé, calling on your member of Congress to support your job search by supporting ENDA. Personalize the cover letter as you see fit, print out a copy of your résumé and go down to your representative’s office closest to your home to hand it in. (If you absolutely can’t travel to your representative’s district office, simply fax or e-mail your cover letter and résumé.)
Please also send us a copy, so we can deliver it to your senators and President Obama to demonstrate our community’s urgent and critical need for employment protections.
