FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force is proud to announce the debut of the Advocate Golf Classic presented by Subaru, our new annual fundraising and community support event. The Golf Classic will include a fabulous day of golf, a participant reception, silent auction and dinner - as well as the opportunity to drive for the Million Dollar Hole in One Shootout. This year's Golf Classic will take place in Denver, Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, and Palm Springs.

"Our members have been asking us for events like these for years," said Task Force Director of Development Charles Robbins. "We are proud to partner with The Advocate magazine as our title sponsor and Subaru's long-standing support of our community made them a perfect choice in being our presenting sponsor. It is also an honor to support the work of several local LGBT organizations, each who will benefit from the proceeds of the tournaments."

After a wonderful day of golf, participants will be able to enjoy a reception ceremony outlining the Task Force's upcoming challenges in the fight for social justice. A silent auction will also be held for participants to bid on numerous items including cruises, vacations, golf weekend getaways, a Vespa, artwork and wines. A wonderful dinner is also provided for participants.

Proceeds from the Golf Classic will benefit the Task Force and several state and local organizations serving the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. These additional beneficiaries include: All Terrain Lesbians and the LGBT Community Center in Denver; the Communion Foundation in Miami; and the Desert Pride Center and Gay Associated Youth in Palm Springs.

Golf classic participants will have the opportunity to shoot for the Million Dollar Hole in One, and any golfer who shoots a hole in one on any of the other par three holes will have a chance to win $10,000 cash, a home computer system, a set of irons or two domestic roundtrip airline tickets.

Golf registration fees and dinner tickets vary per tournament and are available on the website. Reception, silent auction and dinner are included in golf registration fee. For non-golfers, some event locations have dinner and reception tickets available.

September 11: Broadlands Golf Course in Denver, Colorado
October 16: Presidential Golf Course in Miami, Florida
November 6: Tahquitz Creek Golf Course in Palm Springs, California

The mission of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force is to build the political power of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community from the ground up. We do this by training activists, organizing broad-based campaigns to defeat anti-LGBT referenda and advance pro-LGBT legislation, and by building the organizational capacity of our movement. Our Policy Institute, the movement’s premier think tank, provides research and policy analysis to support the struggle for complete equality and to counter right-wing lies. As part of a broader social justice movement, we work to create a nation that respects the diversity of human expression and identity and creates opportunity for all. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., we also have offices in New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis and Cambridge.
