Top-level trainings for LGBT advocates a key focus of upcoming Creating Change conference

WASHINGTON, Jan. 13 — The 22nd National Conference on LGBT Equality: Creating Change in Dallas, Texas, Feb. 3-7, will offer high level and sophisticated training opportunities for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights activists. Through the Task Force Academy for Leadership and Action, the conference will offer nearly 30 different top-level training sessions, presented and led by top trainers in political and social justice movements.
The Academy for Leadership and Action will offer trainings in a wide range of political and organizational skills. This year, Academy for Leadership and Action faculty includes professionals from realChange partners, Renna Communications, the Institute for Welcoming Resources, SONG and the Task Force Organizing & Training team.
"Let's organize, agitate, skill build, network, learn and teach to create a transformed society that embraces full self-determination and justice. There is no time to wait or waste. Come to the National Conference on LGBT Equality: Creating Change and work to achieve this vision in communities all over the country," says Sue Hyde, Creating Change director.
Sessions include a workshop on how to incorporate the insights of faith-based community organizing to change churches at the congregational, regional and denominational levels to become more welcoming of LGBT people; and how to employ lessons learned from the Montgomery Bus Boycott, described as one of the most sophisticated organizing campaigns waged in the civil rights movement, in current activist work.
The conference also features more than 15 additional daylong institutes on Feb. 3-4, focusing on a variety of topics and leadership-building sessions. These include anti-racism work, LGBT youth, transgender rights, faith work and sexual liberation. For more information on these daylong institutes, click here.
