What: National Gay and Lesbian Task Force D.C. Recognition Evening
Who: The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force will honor U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Wis.) and Nancy Wohlforth, secretary-treasurer of the Office & Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU), for their outstanding contribution to the struggle for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality. Why: The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and supporters will gather for the D.C. Recognition Evening to recognize those who have made a significant contribution to advancing LGBT equality. Moore helped lead the push that passed the 2009 expansion of the federal hate crimes law to include sexual orientation, gender identity and disability status.
Wohlforth negotiated sexual orientation clauses into OPEIU’s collective bargaining agreements, which now include gender identity and expression. She also negotiated domestic-partner health and pension benefits for both same-sex and opposite-sex partners.
