Conference is the premier annual organizing and skills-building event for the nation’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 3 — The 23rd National Conference on LGBT Equality: Creating Change is coming to Minneapolis on Feb. 2–6, 2011. Creating Change, as it is commonly called, is the premier annual organizing and skills-building event for the nation’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community and its allies.

The conference is run by the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and attracts more than 2,000 people from all over the country every year. Presenters and participants come from all walks of life and include members of the business community, elected officials, students, faith leaders and staff and volunteers of nonprofit organizations.

“One of the goals of Creating Change is to empower local LGBT communities and build infrastructure to support those communities,” says Rea Carey, executive director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. “Minnesota has wonderful talent, expertise and resources and this conference gives the local community an opportunity to highlight and showcase that to a national audience.”

Creating Change’s five-day program features more than 250 workshops and training sessions, four plenary sessions and a multitude of networking opportunities. Workshop proposals are currently being accepted now through Sept. 30 at the conference Web site, www.creatingchange.org.

Thematically, the 2011 Creating Change conference will reflect on the outcomes of many contemporary issues facing the LGBT community, including the federal political environment following the November 2010 midterm congressional elections, the relationship to the Obama administration and the strength and capacity of the LGBT movement.
