97 percent of state legislators in the five Midwestern states who voted against anti-gay constitutional amendments in 2004 were re-elected.
- 19 legislators who voted for anti-same-sex-marriage amendments and sought re-election were defeated.
- Only three state legislators in those five states who voted against a marriage amendment lost their seats.
