This fact sheet summarizes how welfare reform privileges families headed by married heterosexual couples and disproportionately hurts:
- Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender families;
- Single-parent families;
- Unmarried heterosexual families;
- Black and Latino families.
Welfare reform will cause millions of children to be denied access to basic benefits and services that they need for a happy and healthy childhood.
All American families should be supported by government social policy.
