“Love Won Out” is an anti-gay conference promoting the ex-gay ministries of the national conservative evangelical Christian group Focus on the Family.

While anti-gay organizations have promoted African-American leaders who oppose equal treatment for same-sex couples, in fact many black leaders support equality and oppose the Federal Marriage Amendment. This document has been prepared and updated by the National Black Justice Coalition.

Anti-gay religious groups’ tactics often overshadow the work of pro-gay religious groups. But faith groups working for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality do exist, and it is important that they collaborate with secular progressive organizations.

Ex-gay ministries do more harm than good by claiming that gay men, lesbians and bisexuals — youth in particular — can become heterosexual through “conversion therapy.”
