Family Policy

There are more than 9,000 Hispanic and Latino same-sex couple households in Florida. These families are disadvantaged in terms of education, income, homeownership, disability and citizenship status compared to white non-Hispanic same-sex couple households.

There are more than 100,000 Hispanic and Latino same-sex couple households nationwide. These couples are disadvantaged compared to white non-Hispanic same-sex couple households in terms of education, income, homeownership, disability and citizenship status.

One in 10 employers offers domestic partnership benefits. This manual is designed to help persuade the other 90 percent.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) caregivers and care recipients still face discrimination at doctors’ offices, hospitals, nursing homes, and other places we entrust with the care of our loved ones. Policies that embrace broad definitions of family and caregiving and recognize same-sex relationships would help to ease the burdens and strains of caregiving.

The Census identified 600,000 same-sex households in the United States. With this data we can more forcefully advocate for the policies that will bring about equality for our families.
